Baldur Johnsen
Baldur
Johnsen has over 20 years of Information Technology experience
including healthcare information technology, hospital management, IT
management, systems development, network implementation, IT
operations, and computer systems marketing and sales. He has a
proven track record of managing innovative complex IT projects
including introduction of cutting edge technologies such as IP
Telephony.
For 10
year he lead IT hospital operations in academic healthcare
organizations, first as head of Information Technology for Reykjavik
Hospital in Iceland, and later Director of Information Technology
for Landspitali – University Hospital after the merger of Reykjavik
Hospital and the National University Hospital in 2000.
Before
his involvement in healthcare he held positions in IBM and Digital
Equipment computer systems sales and marketing in Iceland. He was
responsible for the development of one of the first ISP businesses
in the country. Prior he worked as a systems developer for several
IT implementations in government and finance.
He
served on the Icelandic Healthcare Data Network project board since
its conception in 2000 until 2005. Served on the first Healthcare
Informatics Masters Programme governing board at the University of
Iceland and served on the board of the Icelandic Society for
Information Processing. He is currently on the Advisory Board for
the first World of Health IT conference planned in Geneva in October
2006.
He has
consulted various organizations on application of IT, Healthcare
Information Technology, Internet technologies and IT projects
including Cisco Systems and Hewlett-Packard Company.
Baldur
Johnsen holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science and a Masters degree
in Business Administration both from the University of Iceland. He
is a frequent speaker on the strategic application of Information
Technology in Healthcare.
